What to Expect at the Selby Library:
The AARP Tax-Aide Program at the Selby library operates on a first-come, first-served system. The Selby Library site does not take appointments. If you wish to make an appointment in the Sarasota area, please contact our Gulf Gate or Fruitville sites. We may limit the number of taxpayers we serve each day, depending on the number of taxpayers, their position in the queue, AARP volunteer availability and library operating hours.
We are located on the second floor of the library.
All taxpayers listed on the tax return must be present, not including their dependents. We can not accept the presence of less than all listed taxpayers, unless a legal power of attorney is presented.
Enter the glass-enclosed room and present yourself to the Greeter at the front desk.
You will be asked to identify yourself with your driver's license or another valid picture ID and a document showing the Social Security numbers of all persons on your tax return, including your dependents, such as as a social security card, a W2 or form SSA-1099.
The Greeter will provide you with IRS form 13614-C, Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet and an appointment number indicating your place in the queue. You will be asked to fill out the form while at the waiting area outside the glass-enclosed rooms, until called for an interview. Please prepare all tax documents before the interview to speed up the process.
If you are able to fill and print form 13614-C before arriving at the library, you will help make the process more efficient. Thank you!
Please read IRS form 15080 - Consent to Disclose Return Information to VITA/TCE Tax Preparation Sites attached to form 13614-C. Your signed consent will speed up the preparation of your tax return in future years by pre-filling your personal information and the forms used in the current year's return in future years tax returns.
You may be interviewed by an AARP volunteer to go over your completed form 13614-C. The purpose of this interview is to make sure you have all the documents necessary to complete your tax return before meeting with a volunteer tax preparation Counselor.
The assigned Counselor will prepare your tax return in your presence. Upon completion of the return, a Quality Reviewer will be assigned to your tax return. You may be asked to stay in the waiting area until a Quality Reviewer becomes available.
The Quality Reviewer will go over the completed tax return in your presence.
You will be asked to sign IRS form 8879 - IRS e-file Signature Authorization authorizing Tax-Aide to e-file your return on your behalf. The Quality Reviewer will then electronically file (e-file) your tax return with the IRS.
The Quality Reviewer will then hand you an envelope containing a copy of your tax return and all your supporting documents. We will not keep any documents belonging to you under any circumstances.
This completes the tax return preparation and filing process. In the rare circumstance where the IRS rejects your tax return for whatever reason, we will contact you. To that end, it is important that you provide your phone number and email address on form 13614-C.
If you wish to track your tax refund, please go to the IRS Refund website. We are unable to track your refund for you.
If you owe money to the IRS and can't afford to pay, you may apply online for a payment plan. Regrettably, we are unable to assist you in applying.
