What to Expect at the Gulf Gate Library:
The AARP Tax-Aide Program at the Gulf Gate Library operates by appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, subject to availability.
You can make an appointment by coming to the Gulf Gate Library tax preparation area during our Dates and Hours of Operation (see above). You can also sign up in advance in the library foyer before the beginning of the tax season. See "Appointment Scheduling" above. During the tax season, appointments can be made for a future date, during the regular tax preparation hours.
We are located in Conference Room A, the first door on the right, after entering the library, for appointments and tax preparation.
When making an appointment, you will be asked to present your identification, and provide your phone number and email address.
You will receive an envelope containing the IRS form 13614-C, Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet, and a sheet detailing everything you should bring to your appointment (previous years tax returns, all tax documents, SS cards of all dependents, etc.).
Your appointment time and date will be written on your tax envelope. Please mark this on your calendar.
The form 13614-C should be completed before arriving at the library for your appointment.
At your appointed time, you will arrive with your envelope containing your completed forms and all tax documents.
All taxpayers listed on the tax return must be present, not including their dependents. We can't accept the presence of less than all taxpayers, unless a legal power of attorney is presented.
You will be greeted by a Client Facilitator who will check the identification of all taxpayers and their dependents (a picture ID and a document showing Social Security number, such as a social security card, a W2 or form SSA-1099)
You will be called for an interview with an AARP volunteer who will go over your completed form 13614-C. The purpose of this interview is to make sure you have all the documents necessary to complete your tax return and that your return is within our scope. We are not certified to prepare tax return that include property rentals or casualty losses (like hurricane losses).
You will meet with a Counselor, who will prepare your tax return in your presence. Upon completion of the return, a Quality Reviewer will be assigned to your tax return.
The Quality Reviewer will go over the completed tax return in your presence.
You will be asked to sign IRS form 8879 - IRS e-file Signature Authorization authorizing Tax-Aide to e-file your return on your behalf. The Quality Reviewer will then return your envelope containing a copy of your tax return and all your supporting documents. We will not keep any documents belonging to you.
An authorized volunteer will then electronically file (e-file) your tax return with the IRS.
This completes the tax return preparation and filing process. In the rare circumstance where the IRS rejects your tax return for whatever reason, we will contact you. To that end, it is important that you provide your phone number and email address on form 13614-C.
If you wish to track your tax refund, please go to the IRS Where is my Refund site. We are unable to track your refund for you.
If you owe money to the IRS and can't afford to pay, you may apply online for a payment plan. Regrettably, we are unable to assist you in applying.
